Organic Thickener for Breast Milk & Formula
Gelmix Infant Thickener is an organic, hypoallergenic powder formulated to thicken breast milk and most types of infant formula. Tasteless and odorless, it mixes into warm milk to create a smooth, consistent texture.
Thickening may help reduce visible spit-ups in some infants.* For infants with feeding difficulties, Gelmix recipes are also available for specific thickness levels within the IDDSI Framework. Your healthcare professional can help determine the appropriate consistency for your infant.

Ingredients: Organic tapioca maltodextrin, organic carob bean gum, and calcium carbonate.
Certified USDA Organic and Kosher, including Kosher Pareve and Kosher for Passover. GMO-free and free from dairy, lactose, casein, whey, soy, corn, gluten, and artificial additives.
Getting Started: Preparation & Recipes
Gelmix requires warm liquid to thicken properly. Mix into lukewarm breast milk or prepared formula, approximately 100°F (38°C), and allow time to thicken before feeding.
The amount of Gelmix and the wait time depend on the milk or formula and the desired consistency. Choose the guidance that matches your infant’s feeding needs:
- For visible spit-ups: Use the package directions: 2 scoops (2.4 g) per 6 fl oz of warm milk. Shake well for 30 seconds, wait 5 minutes, then mix again and check the temperature before feeding.
- For a recommended IDDSI thickness level: Follow the recipe for your breast milk or specific formula, including its mixing ratio and wait time. Perform an IDDSI Flow Test when trying a recipe for the first few times, testing at serving temperature.

Preparing Bottles Ahead of Time
Most liquids can be batch thickened up to 24 hours in advance. Cold liquids will be thicker, so check consistency at the temperature at which the feed will be served.

Before You Use Gelmix
- Term-born infants: For infants weighing at least 6 pounds.
- Preterm-born infants: For infants weighing at least 6 pounds who have reached at least 2 weeks corrected age (42 weeks postmenstrual age).
- Do not use for infants weighing less than 6 pounds, preterm infants under 2 weeks corrected age, or infants with galactosemia or an allergy to galactomannans.
- Gelmix must be mixed with warmed liquid before use.
- Do not use with pre-thickened formulas.
- Use under the guidance of a healthcare professional for infants with complex feeding needs.
- Moderately thick liquids (IDDSI Level 3) should only be used under medical supervision and are not typically recommended for infants unless directed by a qualified healthcare professional.
Some infants may experience temporary gassiness or changes in stool when thickened feeds are first introduced. These typically resolve within 1–2 weeks or with a temporary adjustment in the amount used.

Storage & Support
Store the powder in a cool, dry place and reseal the jar after each use. Discard 30 days after opening.
